The MPC definitely has more features. it really is a Music Production Centre as it is almost as capable as a DAW (like Ableton Live or other). I own an MPC One, and really enjoy it. However, for what I'm doing I far prefer the SP404 for my daily finger drumming set up. I love the form factor, and it's super easy to function. Plus it's battery operated, so I just keep 6 extra AA batteries on to charge at all times so I can always be jamming. The MPC and SP also pair well together!

Hmm that’s unfortunate. I haven’t had that problem yet but it sounds like you’ll have to replace the frayed part of that cable if you have enough length between the pack and amp. It might be a bit of an involved operation to do it without damaging the rest of the unit. I’ll surely record a video tutorial if I have that same problem.

For sure! The unit I was using in this video is called the MIDI Fighter (midifighter.com) it’s an awesome unit. You can get 64 button versions now too!

Yep! the book comes along with a few sound packs, pre-configured MPC expansions, and Ableton Racks.

There aren’t any keys specifically for controlling a mod wheel parameter. However, you could map one or more custom parameters to the keyboard keys using Keyboard Map mode (Command K (mac)/Control K (pc)). Hope that helps!

Hey! :) Thanks for picking up a copy! I hope it helps you excel quickly :) Hmm well, it varies from person to person of course, so I couldn't make an estimate. However, some tips to keep in mind are: 1. Frequent and consistent practice is better overall than random, longer practice sessions. Set a time every day to practice and stick to it! (if you can get 30 minutes in each day of deliberate practice, you'll see a quick improvement) 2. After you're warmed up in a practice session (it might take 5-10 minutes to feel warmed up), focus on the hard stuff. If there is a beat you're working on that feels super challenging, practice the difficult row/rows repeatedly at a VERY slow tempo. You'll find that after making a slow and deliberate effort to memorize the difficult stuff, the next day it'll be slightly easier. Rinse and repeat until you can do the beat without thinking! 3. Be patient with yourself! It's great that you are also learning piano. Both of these instruments require hand and finger independence. As you strengthen the muscles in your hands, you'll see improvements in your ability to play both of the instruments! 4. Focus on timing! always practice to a metronome if you can. Even if you set the metronome to 60BPM or slower, having that consistent pulse will help your sense of timing in the long run! For me, I find that it takes about three to four practice sessions before I feel like I've committed a difficult beat to muscle memory. I hope that helps! I've mostly left it up to the users interpretation for which hands and fingers are best to trigger each pad, since finger strength will differ between players. However, a technique that I have been finding works very well, is to alternate your hands between the columns. Whew, thats a pretty big question with a few considerations to keep in mind. If you are looking for something that doesn't need to be connected to a computer, I'd definitely recommend taking the plunge and getting into an MPC One (amzn.to/48Wi8kW) or MPC Live (amzn.to/48WdAuX) (if you have the funds). There will definitely be a learning curve with these units, but you won't easily reach any limitations with them, and is a good long term investment in your Finger Drumming/Electronic Music Production Journey. If you don't mind having your controller hooked into your computer, You could get away with more affordable options like the MPD 218 (amzn.to/3vdx6Fq) I hope that helps!
